About Melanie
With the technical precision of a former gymnast and the passion of a lifelong fitness professional, Melanie creates personalized workouts that help you build strength, confidence, and lasting results.
In my nine-year gymnastics career and in my 30 years of personal training, I learned two very vital and important lessons about women’s bodies as we age, as well as rigid-belief systems that can interfere with their health, fitness and general happiness with life.
I was driven and determined to make the 1992 Olympic Team. I trained relentlessly, ignoring my body pain signals, pushing myself too hard, too fast. At age 15, a serious vaulting injury that was so close to my spinal cord ended my Olympic dream. I basically worked my body till it broke.
What lesson did I learn? That we have to listen to our bodies, especially now as it’s changing in our middle age and beyond. We have a higher risk of injuries than we did when we were in our 20s. Do not ignore the pain signals, and do not push beyond your limits, especially when you do not know where that fine line is between training appropriately and overdoing it.
I am your expert at helping you find that fine line and make sure you do not push beyond it. I tailor each session to meet you where YOU are that day. How is your energy level today? Are you dragging, or are you feeling like wonder woman and ready to kick some tail? Modifications are made, and intensity is tweaked to give you the workout that your mind and body are ready for – each and every session!
The second lesson I learned over the years was from the fitness industry in general. The rigid belief system is “the black or white” or “no pain no gain” system. It’s either good or bad for you, yes or no, and there is no gray area in between.
Gray is a good, safe area, and it is the target area where we train. It is flexible, and it always changes. It is based on how our bodies change from week to week, month to month, and year to year. Staying in that black or white rigidity thinking can hinder your progress towards achieving your goals. What works well for one woman may not be at all appropriate for another.
